Dominican Republic Project
In 1975, my father traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in a medical mission. 48 years later, I embarked on a different mission. I traveled to the D.R. to document Lycoming College's Interdisciplinary Domincan Project. A gallery exhibition of my photographs & video, with some of my father’s photos, created a space for public discussion of global politics. Sale of photographs and honor cards I designed raised funds for Warrior Coffee, the interdisciplinary project created by Dr. Caroline Payne. Warrior Coffee Project
The D.R. it is still a poor country, but it is a country of people working for a better life in a changing world. I had the opportunity to meet and photograph a diverse group of wonderful people – coffee farmers, women planning businesses to support their families, teachers, school principals, market vendors, and exuberant grade school students. They graciously shared their stories, hopes and dreams. Click the image below to see more of the project.
